Before our meeting, I thought I'd share some sources that I think may help you find information on federal and state subsidies for dairy in the United States The following free websites are US governmental and organizational websites related to dairy which contain data and reports. Environmental Working Group (EWG) Farm Subsidy Database: https://farm.ewg.org/ Tracks subsidy distribution at state and national levels. Here's a Dairy programs section. USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA): https://www.fsa.usda.gov/ Details on dairy support programs like the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC). USDA Economic Research Service (ERS): https://www.ers.usda.gov/ Reports on dairy subsidies, price support programs, and market conditions. Here's a link to their Dairy section. State Departments of Agriculture -https://www.nasda.org/about-nasda/state-agriculture-departments/ Individual state departments of agriculture often have data on local dairy programs. State Budget and Legislative Reports from individual states may also outline spending on dairy subsidies. National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF): https://www.nmpf.org/ Industry perspective on subsidies. Review the Key Issues menu. Here are some Library resources that you may also want to explore: IBISWorld Includes several dairy related industry reports for the United States such as Dairy Farms, Dairy Product Production, Dairy Wholesaling. Each report includes a Regulation and Policy section in the External Environment chapter which identifies state and federal regulations and programs related to the sector. Overall, each report should give you a good, current overview of the industry, along with additional sources for exploration. To find policy related papers on all sorts of topics from around the word, you can check these databases: Policy Commons Policy Citation Index Overton The full-text may not be contained in these databases, but once you have the report title, you can search Google for the reports. To find articles, books and other resources that may address the topic of dairy subsidies in the US, the following sources may help. Omni - McMaster's academic search tool Sample search results using dairy AND ("United States" OR US OR USA) AND subsid* - narrow results by publication date, resource type, and other criteria. Factiva - international news sources This database includes a lot of national and state news sources which may discuss the topic. I hope this gets you started. I think IBISWorld may be the best one to start with to get your bearings on the dairy industries in general. We can also chat about this tomorrow at our meeting if you like. I'm not having much luck finding Texas based dairy grants. The sources that come up the most frequently, are noted below, but I'm not sure they really have what you are looking for. Ambrook's Agricultural Funding List - https://ambrook.com/ - Dairy Grants and Texas Ambrook provides a collection of grants, loans, discounts, cost shares, easements, and insurance options for agricultural operations in Texas. Texas.gov eGrants - https://txapps.texas.gov/tolapp/egrants/search.htm and https://www.txsmartbuy.gov/esbd-grants The Texas.gov eGrants website allows users to search for competitive funding announcements from Texas state agencies. I entering the keywords "dairy", but didn't get any results. Texas Department of Agriculture Grants -https://texasagriculture.gov/Grants-Services/Grants-and-Services Don't see anything specifically related to dairy, but maybe their chatbot would be worth asking. Texas Legislative Budget Board -https://www.lbb.texas.gov/ Top 100 Federal Funding Sources in the Texas State Budget -https://www.lbb.texas.gov/Documents/Publications/Primer/6361_Top_100_Federal_Funding_Sources_2021.pdf No sign of dairy or agriculture in these publications. Texas Association of Dairymen -https://www.texasdairy.org/about-us/#contacts Didn't find anything relevant at the site, but perhaps contacting them may lead to something. Maybe faster than a response from a government agency. Dairy Business Innovation (DBI) Initiatives - https://www.ams.usda.gov/services/grants/dbi The U.S. Department of Agriculture's DBI Initiatives support dairy businesses in developing, producing, marketing, and distributing dairy products. Doesn't look like Texas is currently home to a DBI Initiative, Sorry that I'm a little bit stumped. I'm not sure what else to suggest, but I'll keep looking and if I find anything that looks useful, I'll pass it on. Ultimately, I think the answer will come from a governmental or association website in the US.
